It was Gazoob’s great pleasure to be invited today, April 1st, to Unity City Academy in Middlesborough to take part in their Year 9 off timetable Games Making Day.
Gazoob's CEO Ray Maguire started the day with a fast-moving and lively 30 minute introduction into what working in games can be like, pulling on his 18 years of experience of working at Sony PlayStation. Showing some clips from industry events, Ray demonstrated how the video games industry is exciting to work in, can be exceedingly challenging but, most importantly, amazingly rewarding both professionally and financially. The students provided some great questions which led to further discussions about the industry, the shortfalls in employability and the opportunities for the young people in the room if they work hard.
Students then spent the morning on their own videogame creations. Despite initial shyness, the students soon opened up about the game creations and demonstrated huge creative enthusiasm for their task. We were particularly impressed by the story-telling skills within the game concepts, the exceptionally professional music scores which demonstrated huge talent, and the creative marketing ideas – especially the phone-shaped cookies!
Thank you Unity City Academy. We had a wonderful morning with you and wish you all great success with your future careers.
